How to Add a Link in Your Instagram Bio (and Add More Than One)
Instagram lets you add clickable links to your bio — and these days, up to five of them. Here's how to add them, why a link sometimes isn't clickable, and what to do when five isn't enough.
How to add a link to your Instagram bio
Do this in the Instagram app:
- 1Go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
- 2Tap Links.
- 3Tap Add external link.
- 4Enter the URL and, optionally, a title for the link.
- 5Tap Done, then Save. Your link shows up as a tappable item under your bio.
You can add up to five links this way, and drag them into the order you want. (You'll need a professional account — switching is free in your settings.)
"My link isn't clickable" — the fix
The most common reason a link doesn't work: it was typed into the Bio text field instead of the Links field.
- Text you type in the Bio box is not clickable — it just shows as plain text.
- To get a clickable link, add it under Edit profile → Links, as above.
A couple of other things to check if a link still won't work:
- Strip extra tracking codes. Long URLs with lots of
?utm_...parameters can sometimes fail — try the plain link. - Check the link itself opens correctly in a browser.
Also worth knowing: Instagram doesn't allow clickable links in post captions or comments — only in your profile (and in Stories via the link sticker). That's why everyone says "link in bio."
Instagram's five-link limit
Five links is enough for some people. But if you sell online or run several things, five slots fill up fast — your shop, your other shop, your socials, your latest promo — and Instagram has a hard cap with no way around it.
There's also the look: five bare links is a plain list, with no room to organize them or feature what matters.
How to add more than five links
Put all your links on one link-in-bio page and use that page as your single Instagram link. One tap opens a page with everything — as many links as you want, grouped and styled how you like.
To set one up for free:
- 1Create a free account — under a minute, no credit card.
- 2Set your URL, like linby.me/@yourname.
- 3Add all your links: shops, socials, content, a way to contact you.
- 4Pick a theme so it looks put-together, then publish.
- 5Add that one link under Edit profile → Links in Instagram.
What to put on it
If you're a seller, lead with what you want people to buy or follow:
- Your Shopee and TikTok Shop links, and any featured products
- Your Facebook page and other socials
- A way to reach you for orders
On the free plan you can list all of these. If you want a contact form to receive orders, or a schedule block for live-selling times, those are on the Basic plan.
